How my belief system created my reality

What we control, and where we really start to create our reality, is in how we perceive/interpret/think about the events in our life that generate our feelings about those events, and how we subsequently respond with our behavior. No one can choose your thoughts or actions; those are yours alone (Vilhauer, 2020).
When you allow your thoughts to take root and accept them as truth, they form beliefs. These beliefs act like a filter, shaping how you interpret events in your life. This filter actively seeks evidence that confirms your beliefs. For instance, if you believe you're not good enough to join a team, you'll unconsciously seek out instances that reinforce this belief, even if others see you as a talented athlete.
Once a belief takes hold, your brain becomes primed to notice only evidence that supports it, effectively ignoring contradictory information. This explains why people with certain beliefs, like those who are depressed, perceive the world in a more negative light. It also reinforces why we often feel our perspective is the absolute truth.
What many don't realize is that we actively participate in constructing our own truth. The information we absorb through our belief filter shapes our self-concept—our present identity and our potential future capabilities. These self-concepts form the stories we tell ourselves and others every day: "I'm not good enough," "I am lovable," "I can achieve my goals," and so on. You are the author of your own story, based largely on the beliefs you've adopted.
These beliefs not only shape your thoughts but also influence your actions. When you act based on what you believe will happen, you're effectively creating that experience. For example, if you fear rejection in a social or professional situation, you're more likely to behave nervously, increasing the likelihood of the outcome you fear—thus fulfilling your own prophecy.
To conclude, our belief system serves as a powerful lens through which you perceive and interact with the world. By becoming aware of your beliefs and understanding how they shape your reality, you can consciously choose beliefs that support your growth, well-being, and the kind of reality you want to experience.
